This drawing was done for a contest at the Hogwarts Art group. The contest simply asked for a drawing of what I imagined the Veela from the Harry Potter books looking like.
My impression from while reading the book was that Veela are siren like creatures... luring men in with their intoxicating song/dance and irresistible beauty, only to take advantage of them. They would then to revert to their true form when displeased or angered.
The Veela, as described at 'The Bestiary' (([link])) are Mountain nymphs, young and beautiful, clad in white, with long flying hair. They dance very sensually, which seems to affect all men. And throw handfuls of fire when angry, their faces becoming like birds with scaly wings erupting from their shoulders. (This is an edited description; please go to the website to read the unedited one.)
Combining my impression, the actually description from the book, and what was mentioned at ‘The Bestiary’ I came up with this picture. Due to the mass majority of Harry Potter fans being minors, I edited this version to remove 'artistic nudity'. If anyone want to view the original & is old enough to do so, please visit my website.
I live how the cloth-thingy they are holding connects the two parts of the veela. I like how they look so different, one closing it's eyes, one opening it's eyes almost threateningly, but they still look the same. That doesn't make sense, does it? Uh, yeah, basically I really like it!
That's exactly what I was striving for. They are two different sides of the same being, one peaceful and beautiful, the other dangerous and not quite human.
